Hiking

The Hikes Near Asheville NC are literally endless. Our location just 10 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway provides access to hundreds of hiking trails and recreation areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. The Pisgah National Forest is also teeming with Pisgah NC Trails and Pisgah National Forest Hikes for those wanting to hit the trails and experience the dynamic terrain of Western North Carolina. Aside from the Asheville Hikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in the Pisgah National Forest, there are hiking opportunities right outside our backdoor! The Florence Nature Preserve is a 600-acre preserve located in Gerton North Carolina in the expansive 14-mile-long Hickory Nut Gorge. The Hickory Nut Gorge is a valley carved out by the Rocky Broad River which flows east to Lake Lure. This area has been a popular recreation area since the 1800's, when stagecoaches made frequent stops in the gorge to take in the beautiful scenery. The Florence Nature Preserve is gaining in popularity as a hiking destination, and a system of hiking trails will eventually allow hikers to walk the entire length of the gorge, from Gerton to Hickory Nut Gorge State Park at Lake Lure. For an expansive view of the Hickory Nut Gorge, climb to the top of Chimney Rock North Carolina. Chimney Rock State Park and Hickory Nut Gorge provided the locale for the movie The Last of the Mohicans. Visitors can hike to a few of the waterfalls shot in the movie on the Skyline-Cliff Trail Loop. Other popular trails in the area are the Forest Stroll, the Skyline Trail and the Cliff Trail.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Bike Trails In NC, like Asheville Hikes, abound in the area surrounding our Lake Lure Rentals. The Blue Ridge Parkway is lauded as a world-class destination for cycling and mountain biking. Some of the best cyclists in the world have taken to the iconic pavement of the Blue Ridge Parkway providing great Mountain Bike Trails In NC to hone their sport and enjoy the smooth pavement and gorgeous views. The Old Fort-Hickory Nut Gorge bike trail begins in nearby Skyland North Carolina. Filled with lots of climbing, this ride is a very strenuous, full day ride. It's well worth the work however, as the trail takes riders through the Hickory Nut Gorge near Bat Cave and under the eaves of Chimney Rock. After the Hickory Nut Gorge, the trail continues on to Old Fort North Carolina. To complete the loop, the trail climbs back up the Blue Ridge Escarpment into Black Mountain before completing the loop back to Skyland. Other biking opportunities are available in the Bent Creek Experimental Forest.

Golf

NC Golf can be enjoyed three seasons out of the year in the Asheville NC area. Boasting spectacular vistas, rolling hills, dramatic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and pristine greens, the Asheville NC Golf Courses surrounding our Cabins to Rent Near Asheville NC are the perfect way to get out and enjoy the scenery.

The Asheville Municipal Golf Course, also called the Buncombe County Municipal Golf Course, is just 13 miles from our Blue Ridge Parkway Mountain Lodgings. Designed by Donald Ross, the designer of the Grove Park Inn Golf Course, the Asheville Municipal Golf Course was built in 1927 and is currently seeking National Historic designation. The course was designed to be challenging but fun with a flat front nine spread out in a wide open layout that allows the use of a driver on most holes. The back nine is wooded and features more elevation changes, tree-lined fairways and hazards. Nestled along the Swannanoa River, the Buncombe County Municipal Course boasts spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Brookwood Golf Club is located just 12 miles from Mountain Meadows Motel in Mill’s River NC. This course is relatively flat and ideal for golfers who enjoy walking the course. The Brookwood Golf Club has numerous pristine creeks that meander through the course, in addition to challenging tree lined fairways and the signature #6 hole, a par 5 of 509 yards.

Nearby Lake Lure NC offers two courses which are only minutes from our Motel and Lake Lure Cabin Rentals. The Lake Lure Municipal Course is a challenging 9-hole course also designed by Donald Ross. The Lake Lure Municipal Golf Course is one of the most scenic courses in the area and is open year-round! Rumbling Bald Resort, once called Lake Lure Golf and Beach Resort features two championship 18-hole courses with fantastic views and challenging greens. Golf Digest readers gave these courses a four-star rating in 2008/2009.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding is one of the most popular activities in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Taking you to areas that cars cannot reache, horseback riding brings your Mountain Getaway Vacation to a new level of adventure, scenic enjoyment and relaxation. Cedar Creek Stables is in nearby Lake Lure North Carolina and is a public trail riding facility. All trail rides have creek walks and meander through the beautiful mountain scenery of Lake Lure.
