Flat Rock Playhouse North Carolina

In nearby Flat Rock North Carolina, the Flat Rock Theatre is the official State Theatre of North Carolina. The Vagabond Players, organized by Robroy Farquhar, found themselves in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina in 1940. The group decided to perform a season of plays during the summer of 1940 at a 150 year-old grist mill at Highland Lake. After growing out of this make-shift theatre and a second home at the Lake Summit Playhouse, the Vagabond Players finally found a permanent home in the Village of Flat Rock. With continued growth and success, the Flat Rock Theatre was named The State Theatre of North Carolina in 1961. Today, the Vagabond Players perform everything from Broadway musicals to comedy, drama and theatre for young audiences. The season is now eight months long to accommodate the more than 90,000 annual patrons of the Flat Rock Playhouse. Don’t miss your chance to watch a top-notch performance at this historic theatre.
